2005 Announcement: Computing in Humanities, Arts, and Social Science Conference

On Friday, December 9, EPIC’s Computing in Humanities, Arts, and Social Science (CHASS) Virtual Institute will host an all-day conference focused on digital tools. This event will be an information exchange among scholars in humanities, arts, social sciences, and computer science and will be an opportunity to discuss projects that use advanced visualization and/or digital tools.

2005 Institute: Cyberinfrastructure Summer Institute for Scientists
Events
GEON (the Geosciences Network) will hold a week-long Cyberinfrastructure Summer Institute for Geoscientists (CSIG) from July 18-22, 2005 at the San Diego Supercomputer Center, University of California, San Diego. The CSIG is designed to introduce Geoscientists to commonly-used and emergent information technology (IT) tools.

2005 Workshop: Girls Engaged in Mathematics and Science Workshop at NCSA

The Girls Engaged in Mathematics and Science program (GEMS, http://gems.ncsa.uiuc.edu) for middle level girls will hold its summer workshop on July 11-15, 2005. A program of the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, GEMS was created as a way to encourage girls to consider mathematics-oriented and science-oriented careers, to gain confidence in doing mathematics and science, to use computers to do science, and to simply have fun while participating in hands-on activities.
2005 Funding: Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU)

The Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program supports active research participation by undergraduate students in any of the areas of research funded by the National Science Foundation. REU projects involve students in meaningful ways in ongoing research programs or in research projects designed especially for the purpose.

Eighty-five teachers and administrators representing 18 teams of middle and high school teachers from rural schools in Illinois and North Carolina are participating in the REVITALISE Program (Rural Educators Using Visualization to Inspire Teacher Advancement and Learning to Improve Science and Mathematics Education).
